Prioritising Safety and Health for a Protected and Thriving Workplace

Employee welfare, especially the health and safety of our employees, remains our top priority. We believe that a safe and healthy workplace is the foundation of a thriving workforce, empowering our teams to perform at their best while driving higher productivity, superior work quality, and overall well-being. Through a proactive and preventive approach to identify and mitigate safety risks, we safeguard our employees, ensure seamless operations, and create a resilient and secure work environment across our plantation and manufacturing sites. This is supported by our IOI Group Safety and Health Policy which reinforces our commitment to maintain the highest safety and health standards across all operations.

To complement the existing safety policies at various business operations, we have introduced the IOI Group Safety and Health Policy. The key commitments are highlighted below:

  • Compliance with all applicable and relevant national and international occupational health and safety laws, regulations, certifications, standards, and approved codes of practice and guidelines.
  • Providing necessary amenities, training, information, and supervision to protect the safety and health of all persons at work.
  • Addressing global health issues such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and other critical health concerns by raising awareness, collaborating with stakeholders, and implementing preventative measures.

We maintain our safety and health through comprehensive best practices, including annual health surveillance, providing primary medical care, conducting various health promotions, and continuous training on safety-related topics. Our emergency response plans ensure preparedness to manage various emergency matters such as fires, chemical spills, accidents, and other potential work hazards. The Safety Committee in respective operating units were established among employer’s representative, employees, and contractors to discuss and highlight various safety matters such as reviewing incident reports, safety initiatives, etc. Transparency in reporting incidents, fatality cases, and other safety-related data on employees across IOI Group remains as part of our best practices.

At the plantation operations, we provide free medical treatment at estate clinics with X-ray and ambulance facilities for our employees and neighbouring communities. Regular health check-ups and monitoring are offered to workers, especially those exposed to health hazards such as chemical handling and noise exposure. It is mitigated by emergency response plans via the availability of qualified Estate Hospital Assistants, VMOs, and well-equipped clinics.
