Green, Wood-free
and Sustainable
In response to the growing global demand for paper and the environmental challenges posed by traditional pulp production, we are using empty fruit bunches, a readily available palm-based biomass, to develop an innovative, sustainable solution.
This process reduces the strain on forests and promotes the efficient use of agricultural waste, transforming it into eco-friendly products such as wood-free paper, tissue paper, premium packaging paper, and pulp-moulded packaging.
IOI’s Next Green Path
Towards A Greener Venture
In April 2024, we partnered with Nextgreen Global Berhad (NGGB) to establish Nextgreen IOI Pulp Sdn Bhd, a joint venture which subsequently formalised a collaboration with Xiamen C&D Paper & Pulp Group Co Ltd. United by a shared vision for a greener economy, we are joining forces to build and operate Malaysia’s first large-scale, zero-waste pulp production facility from empty fruit bunches at the 410-acre Green Technology Park in Pekan, Pahang.
This waste-to-value concept combines our core business strengths to build a sustainable and environmentally-friendly future. Together, we are developing high-quality pulp from empty fruit bunches by utilising NGGB’s patented Preconditioning Refiner Chemical-Recycle Bleached Mechanised Pulp technology and technical expertise, whilst Xiamen C&D will lead in product off-take and distribution efforts exclusively.
