The foundation of IOI Group was laid in 1969 with the establishment of Industrial Oxygen Incorporated Sdn Bhd. This decade marked our entry into the industrial gas business, setting the stage for future growth and diversification.
The 1980s
New Leadership, New Horizons
The 1980s witnessed a pivotal shift with Tan Sri Dato’ Lee Shin Cheng taking the helm, steering IOI towards strategic expansion into property development and plantations. The Group was also listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, marking a new chapter of growth.
The 1990s
Diversification and Setting The Stage
This decade was defined by rapid diversification. IOI solidified its presence in plantations with the acquisition of Dunlop Estates and a corporate restructuring also birthed IOI Corporation Berhad, reflecting the company's broader scope.
The 2000s
Building Momentum, Expanding Footprint
The 2000s saw IOI Group marking its history by diversifying into the oleochemical industry, becoming the world's largest oleochemical producer. The Group also aggressively expanded its property portfolio and made its strategic property developments in Malaysia and Singapore.
The 2010s
Embracing New Markets, Increasing Sustainability Growth
IOI Group continued to strengthen its core businesses in this decade. Significant investments were made in the oleochemicals manufacturing business in Germany and property development in Malaysia, Singapore and China. Numerous sustainability measures were carried out in its ongoing commitment towards increasing the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
The 2020s
Greater Commitment Towards Sustainability, Future Focused
The current decade sees IOI Group building on its legacy, with a deeper focus on sustainability initiatives and venture into the renewable business, further enhancing its commitment to Economic, Environmental, Social, and Governance (EESG).
