IOI Named ESG Champion At Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2025

IOI Corporation Berhad (IOI) received the Company of the Year (Plantation) – ESG Champion Award at the 10th Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2025 on 17 July 2025. This prestigious award was presented by Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad in recognition of IOI’s exemplary leadership in environmental, social and governance (ESG) and wide-ranging corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
In 2024, IOI achieved a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, surpassing our 2025 target a year ahead, through methane capture, carbon sequestration and circular waste management. Our holistic 7Rs of Circularity approach drives resource efficiency and biomass innovation across the value chain. We also established Malaysia’s first palm wood factory and spearheaded the first certified organic oil palm estates and palm oil production in Malaysia and Indonesia, while enriching biodiversity and forging strategic collaborations in environmental conservation.
On the social front, IOI Foundation (formerly known as Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng) has contributed over RM65.4 million since 1985, supporting education, community welfare and socio-economic development. Through Bargain Basement, we promote responsible consumption and community empowerment through a sustainable retail model while channelling the net proceeds into bigger charitable impact.
“These efforts reflect our long-standing commitment to sustainability in every sense – environmental, social and economic,” said IOI Chief Sustainability Officer, Dr Surina Ismail. “We are thankful for this recognition, which inspires us to push further in our journey towards shaping an inclusive, just transition, low-carbon and climate-resilient future.”

Held under the theme ‘Beyond Profits, Making Our World A Better Place’, the event marked a decade of CSR Malaysia – the nation’s largest CSR platform under the Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility Malaysia Welfare Society – recognising corporations that lead with conscience and deliver meaningful impact beyond profits since 2016.
This year, 65 outstanding Malaysian companies were honoured for uplifting underserved communities and championing environmental stewardship. The award dinner, attended by over 800 corporate leaders and dignitaries, served as an inspiration for greater ESG and CSR leadership across the nation.
