Actions Arising from IOI’s First Sustainability Consultation Forum 2021
13/01/2022, Corporate Sustainability

IOI Corporation Berhad (IOI) held its first Sustainability Consultation Forum (SCF) on 28 May 2021, facilitated by BSR (Business for Social Responsibility), with a total of 40 participants have attended the session including IOI’s senior management team and external stakeholders.

Several key outcomes were identified and released to address the systemic labour challenges in the palm oil sector in Malaysia, with specific focus on 1) Responsible Recruitment Practices, especially in Peninsular Malaysia, and 2) Legalisation, especially in Sabah. A comprehensive action plan was developed based on the key outcomes after several discussions with our Sustainability Advisory Panel (SAP).

Among the action plans developed, IOI is currently actively engaging with relevant authorities to share insights and develop solutions to establish a responsible recruitment practice. In addition, IOI participate in the National Action Plan on Forced Labour (NAPFL) 2021-2025 and set up a working group to find the best approach to legalise undocumented workers in Sabah.
