b) Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)
Occupational safety and health (OSH) consideration in both estates and mills
operations are very much emphasized for all levels of employees. Continuous
training and awareness programmes are conducted for those dealing with potential
hazards such as pesticides and machinery.
To enhance employees' safety, hazardous chemicals are kept in
proper storage. Essential safety and warning signs are prominently placed
especially at high-risk places as safety reminders to workers.
IOI also provides free medical treatment at clinics with x-ray
and ambulance facilities for workers and neighbouring communities. The Visiting
Medical Officer (VMO) visits the labour quarters twice a month to ensure
cleanliness and hygiene are maintained. In addition, health programmes and
campaigns on pap smear, breast cancer and other healthcare issues are frequently
organised for the workers and local communities.
